The industrial and systems engineering (ISE) program prepares students, through coursework and applied projects, to address challenging problems in the Design, Analysis and Operations of Systems. The systems that ISE majors engineer range from consumer products or single pieces of equipment to large business, social and environmental systems. Industrial engineers determine the most effective ways to integrate the basic factors of production—people, machines, materials, information and energy—to make a product or provide a service. Students take coursework in three main areas: human-systems integration, operations research (i.e., the scientific process of transforming data into insights for better decision-making) and modern manufacturing processes. Each student obtains a strong foundation in the fundamentals of industrial and systems engineering and gains depth of knowledge in an area of interest to them through our specialization tracks: Data Analytics and Optimization, Human Systems Integration and Design, Supply Chain Management and Logistics, Manufacturing, Management Systems and Operations Research.
