FAQ

Questions & Answers

What are the age requirements?
We recommend that children be between 7 and 12.

Can one adult bring two children?
Yes, however each child must be accompanied by an adult at all times. One adult can register two children provided that all three attend all the same classes/sessions and stay together as a group. In some sessions, this means sharing equipment and working together as one unit.

How many adults can come per child?
We ask that no more than two grandparents accompany each child. This will help ensure the best atmosphere for the day and allow everyone to have equal participation. We ask that all members of the group stay together throughout the day and in some sessions you might need to share equipment.

Must the adult be the child’s grandparent?
While this program is designed for grandparents and grandchildren, we recognize that situations may arise where a grandparent is unable to attend and a child’s parent or relative may accompany them to the program. Please contact Allison Walker at walker.672@osu.edu to discuss your request prior to registering.

Do we need to be Ohio State Engineering alum to attend?
The program was designed for College of Engineering Alumni Grandparents, however, we are open to Ohio State Alumni from other colleges who might be interested. Please contact Allison Walker at walker.672@osu.edu to discuss your request prior to registering.

How do we get around campus to attend the activities and sessions?
All activities/sessions are within an easy walk from one another on campus. Special accommodations can be made for those that require it.

Where do we park?
Parking will be available in the Tuttle Parking Garage located at 2000 Tuttle Park Pl, Columbus, OH 43210. A parking voucher will be given to you at check-in.

Are there safety requirements for programs involving minors?
Yes. The Grandparents Day conduct and safety policies and procedures meet or exceed the Ohio State requirements regarding all programs involving minors.

Hands-On Activity Sessions

How can I ensure my child gets into a specific session that they really want?
Registering early is key. Some of the sessions are limited in size due to availability of equipment or venue size. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. No guarantees can be made for any session.

Who decides which sessions to offer? Why isn't a session from my department offered?
Our program makes every effort to contact and encourage participation with faculty from each unit at the college. We hope to grow our activity offerings in the future. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the offerings during a post-event survey.

Is there another date and time that this program is being offered?
This program is only offered one time during the summer.

What is included with the registration fee?
Your registration fee includes donuts and coffee, a boxed lunch, afternoon refreshments, multiple classes/sessions, parking, event giveaways, and a priceless experience for you and your grandchild.
