Ohio State welcomes engineering education leaders to Columbus

Columbus, Ohio — Columbus will host the 124thAmerican Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference, the only national gathering of engineering educators across all disciplines. This event brings together more than 4,000 engineering education leaders, from P-12 teachers to higher ed faculty, researchers, deans and presidents. The Ohio State University College of Engineering is the event’s host sponsor.

WHAT: This year’s ASEE Annual Conference theme is “Where Engineering Education Takes Flight — From P-12 through Life.” The conference features more than 400 technical sessions, with peer-reviewed papers spanning all disciplines of engineering education.

WHEN: Saturday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 28

Conference highlights include:

  • Saturday, 6/24: Toy Adaptation for Children with Special Needs
    1 – 4 p.m.
    Learn about Ohio State’s Toy Adaptation Program and help engineer a toy for a child with special needs.
     
  • Monday, 6/26: Plenary speech featuring France Córdova, National Science Foundation Director
    8 – 9:30 a.m.
    Also in this session, ASEE will honor winners of national high school STEM contests, including Ashton Cofer of Gahanna, Ohio, winner of FIRST Global Innovation Award.
     
  • Monday, 6/26: Drone Demonstration
    9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (ongoing)
    An Air Force officer will lead a drone demonstration, featuring the future of drones, a palm-sized drone demo and full-sized racing drones.
     
  • Monday, 6/26: Engineering Utopia: Where Art Meets Technology
    Urban Arts Space, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
    Ohio State’s Department of Engineering Education hosts a welcome reception amidst a unique exhibit that celebrates the art of engineering.
     
  • Tuesday, 6/27: Plenary speech featuring Aimee Kennedy, Battelle’s Senior VP of Education, STEM Learning and Philanthropy
    9:45 – 11:15 a.m.
     
  • Wednesday, 6/28: Distinguished lecture, “Broadening Participation in STEM,” featuring Gary May, Dean of Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology
    9:45 – 11:15 a.m.
