The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) recently bestowed two prestigious honors upon Department of Materials Science and Engineering Professors Michael Mills and Dennis Dimiduk.

Mills is the sole recipient of the 2019 Oleg D. Sherby award. He was recognized for his work on creep behavior in complex metallic alloys using advanced characterization methods to gain new insights into deformation mechanisms and develop new models of deformation. Mills will be presented the award next week during the 148th TMS Annual Meeting.

Dimiduk was elected as a 2019 TMS Fellow, one of only nine in this year's class. Scholars qualify for this prestigious position with their "outstanding contributions to the practice of minerals, metals, or materials science and technology". Dimiduk was recognized for leadership and contributions to high-temperature and intermetallic materials development, integrated materials modeling, 3D materials science and the science of size-scale effects in plasticity.
