Materials Science and Engineering Professor Ji-Cheng (JC) Zhao has been elected to the class of 2019 Materials Research Society (MRS) Fellows.

He is recognized for pioneering research on structural materials high-throughput measurement through the invention and application of the diffusion-multiple approach and co-invention of ultrafast laser materials-property microscopy tools. He came to The Ohio State University in 2008, after 12 years at GE Global Research as a materials scientist and team leader. Zhao was elected a Fellow of ASM International in 2003. He holds 48 U.S. patents with more pending.

The highly-selective title of MRS Fellow honors those MRS members who are notable for their distinguished research accomplishments and their outstanding contributions to the advancement of materials research, world-wide. The maximum number of new Fellow appointments each year is limited to 0.2% of the current MRS regular membership and to those with continuous engagement with MRS.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Leonard Brillson and alumnus and former Ohio State Professor John Hirth were named MRS Fellows in 2013 and 2008, respectively.
