Spine disorders are the most disabling condition known to humankind. The Spine Research Institute (SRI) is a collaborative effort between engineering and medicine at Ohio State, a unique group of multi-disciplinary experts and facilities dedicated to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of spine and other musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

"We use engineering quantitative techniques to characterize problems with the spine that can be used to both prevent spine injuries as well as treat them in a personalized medicine fashion," said Executive Director and Integrated Systems Engineering Professor William Marras.

SRI focuses on three areas: fundamental research, prevention through ergonomic assessment and personalized medicine.
